In LEGEND OF THE HIGHLAND DRAGON, Lord Stephen MacAlasdair is hunting for an old enemy who has returned to England with diabolical magical powers. His first stop takes him to an old friend Professor Carter but Carter employs Cerberus as the guardian of his door. Actually, Cerberus, while apt in some ways, doesn't describe Miss Mina Seymour, Carter's secretary.
Mina has taken it upon herself to improve her diction, her knowledge and her ability to be a good secretary. So when Lord MacAlasdair comes demanding access to Carter, she understandably wants to protect her employer from the mysterious but handsome Scottish Lord. To find out more about MacAlasdair, she goes to his home to take tea with his cook. And that sets the plot into motion leading to paranormal entities, Lord MacAlasdair's secret and a love that grows from interest to blazing passion.
This is my first Isabel Cooper book and I fell in love with the characters and the story almost from the very first page. There's a droll humor and witty repartee that I love and the mix of adventure and romance is just perfectly entertaining.
Yes, there are tiny quibbles but nothing that stopped me from enjoying the story. For example, it seemed implausible to me that Mina would take tea with Stephen's cook so that she could get more information about him. This is explained, quite well, in the story but still…for me it was a stretch. Nevertheless, I was able to read on with barely a break in my attention.
I recommend Legend of the Highland Dragon. It's definitely worth a read or three and I look forward to the next book in the series (possibly Stephen's brother.)
